In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

WHAT DOES THE QUESTION ASK?

The task is asking whether my products (Trailer, Poster and Magazine cover), follow the conventions of our chosen genre. Does it fit? Does it challenge conventions? Does it develop them? Does it look like a real media product?

DOES IT FIT GENRE? (TRAILER)

Our film is a British Comedy, with a slight aspect of romance. The film could be classed as both a Comedy and a Rom-Com. In regards to our trailer, i believe it follows most, if not all of the conventions of our chosen genre. Our narrative is simple, and is seen clearly through both the cinematography and titles in the trailer. We used similar titles to the film 'Love Actually'.

Does it fit genre (Trailer)

The films plot  is clear and easy to follow in our trailer. In our chosen genre, the main outline of the plot is given to the audience. This is effective as most audiences will be used to the structure of a rom-com, as they have a tendency to be slightly cliched. The trailers main objective is to tell the audience a vague outline of the plot, reveal the characters and to make the audience want more. In our trailer, the main three points of narrative are: 1) Losing Girlfriend 2) She then late gets engaged to his Brother 3) He has to find a 'Plus One' for the wedding.

does it look like a real trailer?

Our trailer looks relatively professional, as we studied various types of trailers. We used not only our production company, but included real companies such as Film 4 in the opening sequence of our trailer. This added a sense of authenticity and helped the production feel true to life. However, not all of our film could be classed as professional quality. The framing of the titles could be questioned, as they appear some what amateur.

DOES IT FIt THE GENRE?: Magazine COVER

DOES IT FIT THE GENRE? (MAGAZINE)

Our magazine cover is in the style of 'Total Film'. The design is simple, and similar genres scan be seen on previous issues of the series. The magazine tends to promote Hollywood, British and main stream cinema. The magazine publishes with a large target audience in mind. It is not a niche magazine such as sight and sound, which would promote or advertise critically acclaimed films.

DOES IT LOOK PROFESSIONAL? (MAGAZINE)

I believe that our magazine looks very professional. It conforms to all of the conventions. The rule of thirds is clearly followed and the magazine is both colour and size balanced. The main image is central and the cover lines compliment it well.

DOES IT FIT THE GENRE?: FILM POSTER

DOES IT FIT THE GENRE? (POSTER)

Our poster is simple, yet effective. It follows the conventions of other rom-coms. The two stars of the film are central to the poster, and the love interests and necessary plot drivers are also clear. The poster could be more like a rom-com, if the colour pallet was adapted. However, the blues and whites used suit the branding of our film very well.

DOES IT LOOK PROFESSIONAL? (POSTER)

The poster is relatively professional, as all of the industry conventions are present. For example: Staring actor credits, production company logos, copy right paragraph, and film title.
