Q7. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARN'T IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT ?

THE PRELIMINARY TASK:

  • I've learnt that we are have to think wisely about where we choose to record our newscast because at first we recorded in the classroom, which had a lot of background noise, but now we know to do it in somewhere like a studio.
  • Also, I've learnt that I can’t be shy and closed when presenting a radio station, but open and confident so that everything is loud and clear.
  • Additionally, something else I've learnt from my preliminary task is that it cant be based on just the soft news like Kim Kardashians wardrobe and what’s in this winter, but about hard news stories and whats happening in the local community!
  • Lastly, I've learnt that I cant use the same tone of voice for everything and that for different stories I have set my tone at the right voice so it doesn't sound offensive, for instance if I was talking about death, I shouldn't necessarily sound cheerful.

BLOGGING!

  • Well firstly, I learnt HOW TO BLOG, and how to achieve a successful blog because of the constant updating and research!

  • Also with blogging it used to be hard keeping up to date with it, because it would take so much time, but because I did this constantly, it helped with my time management and how to work with my time efficiently.

  • Blogging regularly also taught me a huge amount of information, because I would be blogging about what makes the best reporter and the 12 Ethical Standards, so this gave me more of a brief idea what a radio station does.

RESEARCH!

  • I developed my research skills. The research process taught me how to write a lead story and conduct interview effectively. These all helped with the result of producing my own radio newscast.

  • I also learnt from the research that there are many roles in the news production process. I got the chance to serve in several roles and develop a wider range of skills.

  • Lastly, from researching; it helped me to understand the ways in which news itself works and the different types of news there are, trust me there are many!

THE PRACTICALTHINGS!

  • One of the practical things I learnt is about how to do a vox pop. It is one of the way a news reporter collects the views of public.

  • The vox pop allowed me to communicate more with members of the local community than I ever did before and this allowed me to get a reliable view from the public.

  • I also learnt that I was going to get rejected at some points, but this showed me that I shouldn't just give up that quickly, but keep on going.

  • There are plenty of ways to communicate such as outside broadcasts or vox pop!

THERE'S NO 'I' IN TEAM

  • Teamwork is an extremely important factor in media and I've learnt that it is incredibly important that you get along as a group, otherwise it is hard to complete tasks together.

  • I've also learnt that with a group you have to ensure that everyone has an equal amount of work, so the others aren't let down.

  • I've also learnt that you should always confer ideas together before choosing what you're going to do because that way everyone ideas an be put across &that way everyone will get their say.

NEW  SKILLS

  • New skills that I have learnt are how to use new technologies, this includes software such as audacity, garage band etc.
  • Another new skill that I have learnt is that planning is the key to being organised, and that this way everything is less stressful and more things get done.
  • All these new skills allowed me to improve my radio newscast because I put these new ideas in to one, experimented in the preliminary task; then developed my skills even further based on feedback and practice.

Overall, from this course I have learnt many things about how to improve on things, what not to do and how to be the best news reporter for a radio station. From the preliminary task, I have developed on a lot of things, and can see clearly on what to improve and take note off when doing my radio station.
