RATP actually opens up its data...
... and sets up a hackathon
My idea: an online version of "pili"
People at the hackaton
tell us not to do pili
because it's so political at ratp
and so we don't
and we don't win the hackaton
After the hackathon
... I stubornly return to the original idea
of a PILI interactive
vasyenmetro.com
simple to use (at most two clics)
fast
everything is done inside the browser
scalability
offline mode
also, a silly tweetbot (@vasyenmetro)
The project picks up steam
Google Maps blog:
map of the week (Aug. 2013)
"a great demonstration piece
of using the Google Maps API
to show custom data"
Good to very good natural SEO:
4th position for "plan métro interactif"
on 1st SERP page for "plan métro"
CTR 2-8%
in september, RATP sets up
a follow-up competition
which i enter with
vasyenmetro.com
And ON 25TH OCTOBER...
vasyenmetro wins 1st prize
things learned
never listen to anything people tell you
anything useful will upset someone
but more people will like it
which will upset even more people
what now?
Many things to do
implement better algorithm(s)
do some user testing
import more data /
other GTFS data (other cities)
build a physical prototype based on old PILI hardware
